Adam Lantz As Cover Story Interview – July 2025 Magazine Edition

Briefly describe your background, interests, and significant life experiences.

Today I’m a lawyer, writer and political communicator, organiser, and activist.
I come from a background where I have witnessed inequality firsthand. I’m originally from a small industrial town in Sweden called Åkers Styckebruk. Growing up, I saw the class divide in Sweden become more pronounced — once less visible, it’s now as stark as in places like England, where inequality has long been entrenched. Billionaires flourish while many are left to compete for scraps. The ‘individualistic’ and ‘American Dream’ mentality spreads, but for many in my hometown, life is marked by drugs, suicide, and criminality. Having family in Stockholm, I saw how upbringing and opportunities could differ dramatically — something I was lucky to avoid but that deeply shaped my understanding of systemic injustice.

I have always stood up for the less fortunate and vulnerable — it’s in my nature. But it was during my studies in law and economics I gained a clearer picture of how systems are rigged against justice. Later, working as a human rights and migration lawyer, I saw how laws that claim to protect rights often serve to oppress and exclude. That experience shattered my faith in the current system’s ability to deliver true justice and fueled my commitment to organise — not just against injustice, but for a fundamentally different world where justice is a lived reality.

Since the situation in Palestine deteriorated, my eyes have been wide open, and I can no longer turn away. My work now focuses on political education, climate justice, and international solidarity, all grounded in democratic socialism to combat systemic imperialism. Palestine is a powerful example of the stakes in this fight. Over time, I have become deeply involved with DiEM25 and MERA25 Sweden, movements that provide concrete, democratic eco-socialist frameworks to confront the crises we face. This fuels my commitment to linking local struggles with global efforts to build a fairer and sustainable future.

Major Challenge: What has been a major challenge in your life and how did you handle it?

One of the greatest challenges has been confronting the dangerous privilege of political apathy. Too many people, often from relatively privileged backgrounds, choose not to engage, allowing injustice and ecological collapse to worsen unchecked. I faced this challenge by dedicating myself to raising awareness through activism, writing, and organizing, emphasizing that disengagement is itself a political choice with real consequences. I learned to transform frustration into constructive action by building solidarity and educating others on the urgency of collective political engagement and organising.

Proud Moment: Share a personal or professional achievement you are proud of.

I’m proud to be part of the growing movements around DiEM25 and MERA25 Sweden. Together, we are transforming visionary ideas into practical policies that align democratic eco-socialism with ecological and social justice. This movement is essential for Europe’s future. Seeing how leaders like Zohran Mamdani in New York are already embodying this vision shows me that systemic change is within reach — and that collective liberation is possible when we unite and act.

Daily Motivation: What keeps you motivated and inspired each day?

I am motivated daily by the understanding that the survival of Europe — and the planet — depends on us uniting for democratic eco-socialism. Jason Hickel’s research clearly shows that without fundamental change toward justice and sustainability, our future is bleak. Movements like DiEM25 and MERA25 Sweden represent hope and a roadmap forward. Witnessing the growing momentum in these movements, and leaders like Zohran Mamdani in New York, inspires me to keep pushing for systemic transformation through solidarity and political engagement.

Community Contribution: How do you actively give back to your community or support others?

I contribute by creating accessible content that educates and empowers people to understand and exercise their political power. Through writing, public talks, and collaborations with activist networks, especially those focused on international solidarity and democratic socialism, I help connect local struggles to global movements like DiEM25 and MERA25 Sweden. Supporting marginalised voices and fostering community organizing are central to my efforts in building collective strength. If there is one thing I want to achieve or continually have an impact in is to give people confidence in voicing their thoughts. I hope I can give others the courage and clarity to do so too by my action because I sincerely believe that the liberation will not be silent.

Message to Readers: What message or advice would you like to share with our readers?

Politics is not optional — it’s the foundation for shaping the world we want. The dangerous privilege of ignoring politics only deepens injustice and ecological destruction. To save Europe and the planet, we must unite behind democratic eco-socialism through movements like DiEM25 and MERA25 Sweden. The future is not predetermined — change is already underway, as shown by leaders like Zohran Mamdani in New York. I urge you to move beyond apathy, embrace solidarity, and engage actively. Choosing to care and act is a radical act of hope and the only path to collective liberation.
